LOVELL FIGHTS THEM OFF FOR ROUND TWO WIN
May 01, 2008 at 03:45 AM

It had been over two months since the first round, but racing in the interim in New Zealand may have been the right ingredient for Matt Lovell to take out round two of the 2008 Supaloc Australian Saloon Car National Series. The success at Oran Park last weekend elevates him to second in the series and came when the Batteries Direct Ford Falcon AU improved on his open race (of three) fourth with a pair of victories.

He freely admitted to being under the pump in both those races as fellow Falcon drivers, firstly series leader Steve Kwiatkowski and then Kris Walton pressured and attacked the South Australian. "I had to work really hard for Steve was all over me in the last few laps of the second race and then Kris (Walton) would have got me for sure if he didn't have the gearbox problem in the last," Lovell stated.

WALTON TOPS IN ORAN PARK QUALIFYING
Apr 26, 2008 at 10:00 AM

Putting behind the disappointment of missing a podium placing at Bathurst in round one, Queenslander Kris Walton struck back solidly in qualifying for round two of the Supaloc Australian Saloon Car National Series at Oran Park today. At the helm of his Talbrace Ford Falcon AU, Walton was the only runner to go under one minute 20 seconds with a stunning 1:19.8994 time.

Bathurst winner and series leader Steve Kwiatkowski was second fastest in his Westport AU and will start the first race later today from the outside of the front row while the South Australian Holden Commodores of Bruce Heinrich and John Goodacre will occupy the second row.

From the heights of Mt Panorama for the first round in February, the second round of the 2008 Supaloc Australian Saloon Car series descends to Oran Park near Sydney NSW this weekend - and while the capacity field relished the opportunity to race at Bathurst, it's now down to business for those chasing series honours.
