LEAD EXTENDED AFTER POOR START
Jun 28, 2009 at 03:27 AM

South Australian Shawn Jamieson has increased his Kumho Tyres Australian Saloon Car Series lead despite failing to start the first of the three round four races at Winton Raceway today. His Morphet Vale Garage Holden Commodore VT snapped a main shaft in its gearbox on the warm up lap which enabled Tim Rouse to not only take the opening race victory but the round overall.

Second for the weekend was the TASCCO Ford Falcon AU driven by Tony Evangelou (Vic) – while not the most powerful car out there, was certainly very consistent. Jamieson was able to effect repairs and came back from the rear of the grid to finish second behind race winner South Australian John Goodacre (Avery Commodore) and then win the last comfortably.

JAMIESON OUT QUALIFIES DEPLETED LINE UP
Jun 28, 2009 at 03:25 AM

Tearaway series leader Shawn Jamieson has put his Morphet Vale Holden Commodore VT on pole position here at Winton Raceway today for the first race of round four of the Kumho Tyres Australian Saloon Car Series. With only seven rivals Jamieson posted a 1 minute 38.4927 seconds which was just two tenths of a second off the lap record and six tenths faster than his nearest rival. “I went out and nailed a time as early as possible so I could save the tyres for the first race and have a crack at the lap record,” he said.

Fellow South Australian and Holden driver John Goodacre (Avery VT) nabbed the outside of the front row. Despite staying on old rubber Victorian Tim Rouse (Rouse Motors VT) made it a Commodore trifecta when he snare third ahead of the best of the Fords, the v8touringcars.com.au Falcon AU of Geoff Brown in only its meeting following the writing off of his original Ford at Phillip Island’s round two.
